JCX Construction does dirt work for homeowners, builders and commercial owners in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. If the site needs to be shaped, filled, compacted or drained, this is the page.
What we do
Rough grading
Getting the site to the approximate elevations the plan calls for, cut where it is high and filled where it is low, before anything is built.
Fill and compaction
Fill is placed in lifts and compacted rather than dumped and driven over. Fill that is not compacted settles, and whatever sits on it settles with it.
Building and drive pads
Level, compacted pads for houses, shops, outbuildings, slabs and driveways, built to the size and elevation on the plan.
Drainage grading
Swales, berms and slopes that move water around the structure and off the property in the direction it is allowed to go. Often paired with excavation for drains and detention.
Finish grading
The last pass before landscaping, sod, gravel or hardscape: smooth, consistent and sloped to drain.
Planning a dirt work job
Tell us what is going on the ground: a house, a shop, a driveway, a yard. Bring the plan if there is one. We walk the site, check slope, access and drainage, and write down how much material moves, where it comes from and where it goes.
Clearing first? See land clearing. Need the stormwater paperwork on a larger site? See SWPPP compliance.

Dirt Work questions we get asked
What counts as dirt work?
Moving, placing, shaping and compacting soil: rough grading, finish grading, fill, building pads, driveways and drive bases, berms, swales and positive drainage away from structures.
Why does grading matter so much around here?
Because much of the metroplex sits on expansive clay. Water that sits against a foundation makes clay swell, and water that leaves makes it shrink. A lot of foundation and slab trouble begins with ground that holds water where it should not. Grade that carries water away from the structure is cheap insurance.
Do you bring in fill dirt?
Yes. We can place fill and compact it in lifts. We can also bring in fill, select fill, sand and gravel when the job needs more than the site can supply.
Can you fix a yard that floods or holds water?
Often. We look at where the water comes from and where it can leave, then regrade, add a swale or drain, or both. Some problems come from the neighbouring lot or the roofline, and we will say so rather than move dirt that will not help.
Do you do the final grade before landscaping or sod?
Yes. Finish grading to the elevations on the plan or to a smooth, positive-draining surface, ready for landscaping, sod or [hardscape](/hardscape).
