Plan the clear before the machine arrives
Before anything is cut, we agree the boundary of the clearing, which trees stay, where equipment can access and what happens to the material. Clearing more than the project needs removes natural erosion control and costs more, so we clear what the plan requires.
Clearing and stormwater
Disturbing a large area can trigger stormwater rules, with a plan for keeping sediment on site. See SWPPP compliance. Planning it before clearing starts is easier than adding silt fence after the first rain.
What comes next
After clearing the lot is usually graded or built on. Site preparation turns a cleared lot into a pad, and haul off takes away what does not stay.

Land Clearing questions we get asked
What does land clearing include?
Removing brush, small trees, larger trees where agreed, stumps and surface debris from the area you are going to use. We write down exactly which area and what is staying, so the scope is not a guess.
What happens to the trees and brush?
They are hauled off, or handled on site where that is allowed and agreed. Open burning is restricted in many parts of the metroplex, so do not assume it is an option. We will tell you what makes sense for your property.
Can you leave certain trees?
Yes. Tell us which trees stay, or mark them, and we will clear around them. Protecting the root zone matters, and we plan machine access so it is not damaged.
I have oak trees. Anything I should know?
Oak wilt is a real concern in Texas. Cutting or injuring oaks during the warm months can expose fresh wounds to the disease, and guidance is to avoid it or to seal fresh cuts. Mention oaks when you call, and we will plan the timing around that.
What comes after clearing?
Usually grading and a pad, [site preparation](/site-preparation), or [excavation](/excavation) for a foundation. Doing both with one contractor avoids a gap between clearing and the next step where weeds and erosion take over.
