What goes into hardscape
Excavation to the right depth
The old surface and soft soil removed to the depth the base needs, with the spoil hauled off or reused.
Compacted base
Gravel or base material placed in lifts and compacted so it carries load without settling. Brought in with the job where needed.
Grade and drainage
Slopes set so water runs off the surface and away from the house, not under the surface and into the base.
Retaining and level changes
Grading and base work for walls and terraces where the yard has to change level.

What hardscape work do you do?

Why do patios and walks fail?
Almost always the ground beneath them: a thin or uncompacted base, soil that holds water, or grading that sends runoff under the surface instead of away from it. Clay soil in this area moves, so base and drainage matter more here.
Can you remove the old patio or drive first?
Yes. We break out and [haul away](/haul-off) old concrete and flatwork, then prepare the new base. See [demolition](/demolition).
Can you deliver the base material?
Yes. We can bring in gravel, base and sand to match what the job needs and place and compact it as part of the work.
