JCX Construction does excavation for residential and commercial projects across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The work is simple to describe and unforgiving to get wrong: the hole has to be the right size, the right depth and in the right place, and the water has to go somewhere that is not your neighbour’s yard or your foundation.

What we excavate

Foundations and slabs

Cuts for slab-on-grade, pier and beam and basement-style foundations, trimmed to the lines and elevations the plan calls for. We work from your builder’s or engineer’s drawings and cut to them.

Trenches

Utility, drainage and conduit trenches at the depth and slope the line needs. See utilities installation when the pipe or conduit goes in at the same time.

Pads and parking areas

Building pads and gravel or paved parking areas, cut or filled and compacted so they hold up. Pairs with site preparation and dirt work.

Ponds, swales and drainage

Stock ponds, detention areas, swales and French drain runs that move water to where it is meant to go.

How a job runs

  1. Walk the site. Access for equipment, slope, what is above and below ground, and where the spoil can go.
  2. Written estimate. Scope, quantities where they can be measured, what is included for hauling, and the price.
  3. Locates and layout. Underground utilities are located before digging, and the work is staked to the plan.
  4. Dig, check, finish. Cut to depth and grade, checked against the plan, backfilled or hauled as agreed.

What changes the price

  • How much material has to be moved, and how far
  • Whether spoil stays on site or is hauled off
  • Access for equipment and how wet the ground is
  • Rock, buried debris or old foundations found once the ground is open
  • Whether utilities, drainage or a finish grade are part of the same job

We write the assumptions on the estimate, so if the ground surprises everyone we both already know how it gets handled.

Excavation questions we get asked

What kinds of excavation do you do?

Foundation and slab cuts, utility and drainage trenches, building and parking pads, retention and stock ponds, swales and French drain runs. If the plan calls for dirt moving in or out of a hole, that is excavation.

Do I need to call before you dig?

Someone has to. Texas811 is the free one call center that notifies utility owners so marked lines are located before ground is broken. We confirm locates are in place before the bucket goes in the ground, and we tell you if your property has private lines, such as irrigation, gas to a pool heater or a well line, that the public locate does not mark.

What happens to the dirt?

It depends on the job. Good soil is often stockpiled and reused for backfill and grading, and the rest is hauled off. We agree which on the estimate so you are not surprised by a trucking line later.

Can you excavate on clay soil?

Yes. Much of the Dallas-Fort Worth area sits on expansive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry, so foundation depth, drainage and backfill choices matter more here than in sandier ground. Follow the engineer's or builder's plan for the structure, and tell us what is on the plan so we cut to it.

How do I get an estimate?

Call or send the form on this page. For most jobs we walk the site, look at access, slope and what is underground, and write up scope and price. Estimates are free.
